fiestas patrias!
prepare yourselves for an explosion of blog posts.
first off, a quick recap of my weekend in valparaíso and rancagua celebrating the fiestas patrias.

dancing the cueca in the main ramada at the fonda in viña del mar. i used my gringa charms to get us in fo free.

kids dancing the cueca at the school next door. precious.
anticuchos at the fonda in valparaíso
in rancagua we went to the zoo for a lion safari. this is our fearless guide feeding pieces of raw meat to the lion. the lion that is perched on top of the cage of a jeep. the questionably secure cage of a jeep. i’d be lying if i said this was an entirely harmless adventure. chile’s safety standards are a little questionable.
i wish i could accurately explain to you the quantity of food consumed over this weekend. this is a picture of the fourth of six asados we went to. the first of three rounds of steak. and an entire adobe oven filled with chicken.
sixth asado: round 1. the equivalent of seven chickens.
aaand some meat. because there wasn’t enough chicken. my stomach may never recover.
