today we went to la feria for fruits and vegetables. it was a farmer’s market like i’ve never seen before. vendor after vendor selling every kind of vegetable imaginable. there were celery stalks (apio) that came as high as my knees and basil you could smell from thirty feet away. mi papá told me that come november, in the middle of summer, the fruit selection is unimaginable. we loaded up the trunk with everything mi mamá will need for the next week. potatoes, onions, celery, and carrots. five different kinds of lettuce, artichokes, bananas, and zucchinis. cauliflower, mandarins, broccoli, beets, avocados, and beans. oranges, cilantro and garlic. the only thing we didn’t buy was the skinned whole octopus. gracias a dios.
